Job Description
PeopleReady Skilled Trades is now hiring experienced painters in Norfolk, VA. Must have experience in the shipyard industry. SSPC certification or C7, C12, C13 or C14. Must be able to pass a background check in order to obtain DBIDs badge. Must be able to pass a drug screen.
Responsibilities
- Preparing the surface (by sanding, blasting, cleaning, etc.)
- Removing old coatings using chemicals
- Applying primers and finish coats
- Providing quality wood finishing
- Tinting paints
- Spray painting (indoors and outdoors)
- Sign work ( such as cutting stencils, hand lettering, silk screen lettering, etc.)
- Poster work (design and layout)
- Graining, marbling, and flocking
Qualifications & Experience
- Must meet all Journeyperson Marine Painter 1 requirements
- Must know how to use power tools associated with surface preparation and paint removal
- Must have knowledge of brushing and rolling painting
- Must have knowledge of surface preparation SSPC-SP-1, SP-2, SP-3, SP-5, SP-6, SP-10, SP-11 AND SP-12
- Must have knowledge of the paints used in marine painting, including safety data sheets and NAVSEA 718 product data sheets
- Must possess knowledge of the differences between critical coated systems and non-critical coated systems
- Must have knowledge concerning paint induction times and also have some knowledge of spray painting, or pumping (gas free) procedures
- May have two or more of the following SSPC certifications: C7, C12, C13, or C14
- Ability to perform work in confined spaces
- Knowledge of NAVSEA Standard Item 009-32 and the requirements
