Job Description
The Quality Assurance Inspector III is responsible for attending and documenting the results of in-process and final inspections for work accomplished onboard naval vessels and at SCW&M facility. This position will be the Lead QA Inspector and point of contact for all quality related matters for multiple availabilities. The QA Inspector will act as a liaison between the Customer and trades/subcontractors when (G) checkpoints are required to be accomplished. Results of inspections will be documented on inspection records. This employee will be responsible for creating and overseeing updates to the Test and Inspection Plans (TIPs) and accessing/extracting data from the Naval Maintenance Database (NMD). Additional responsibilities will include electronic filing of records and notifying supervision when discrepancies are identified. Aids with additional tasks as directed by the QA Supervisor/Manager.
Responsibilities
• Prepares inspection reports and maintains records.
• Lead position on smaller and shorter projects under the direction of SCW&M QA III and/or QAI IV.
• Maintain your project folder and your digital folder.
• Clear tips and write IDR’s pertaining to your project.
• Troubleshoot and resolve issues on your project.
• Proficient with NAVSEA Standard Items
• Perform and document(I), (V), (G), AND (Q) inspections under the direction of SCW&M QA III and/or QAI IV.
• Review Documentation pertaining to checkpoints called out by trades and sub-contractors to assure completeness and accuracy.
• Review and maintain the Test Inspection Plan for Completeness and accuracy.
• Read and review work specifications pertaining to projects
• Research multiple drawing, technical manuals, NAVSEA standard items and other references to assure quality for every checkpoint called out by trades and sub-contractors.
• Maintain strong professional relations with customers and subcontractors.
• Assist with project management under direction of SCW&M QA III and/or QAI IV.
• Accept/ Reject checkpoints on Navy vessels as well as in shop.
• Coordinate checkpoints with customers, trades, and sub-contractors.
• Drive yourself and assist in driving others to checkpoints or other job duties in company vehicles.
• Initiates corrective action when non-conformance and discrepancies are identified.
• Perform other duties by direction or SCW&M Supervisor or Manager
Qualifications & Experience
- Basic Knowledge with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, & Outlook)
- Knowledge of shipboard equipment/systems
- Knowledge of NAVSEA Standard Items
- Ability to read blueprints/schematics
- Must be detail oriented
- Strong typing and data entry skills
- PREFERED KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS
- • NAVSEA Basic Paint Inspector (NBPI) certification
- • SSPC/NACE certification
- • Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) Inspector
- • Mechanical/Electrical experience
- • High School Diploma
- • Must have a minimum of 3-4 years shipboard experience.
- • Must be able to speak and understand Basic English
