Job Description

We are currently seeking J-4 Pipefitters to join our Pipeshop in Norfolk, Virginia. The hours for this position are 7 am – 3 pm or 3 pm – 11 pm.

As a JourneyPerson 4 (Pipefitter), you will be responsible for reading and interpreting blueprints and sketches to install all piping systems aboard the ship. You will perform shop prefabrication on piping systems using sketches and templates developed from blueprints and ship check.

Responsibilities

  • Understand tag-out procedures for piping systems prior to working on ships' piping systems and accomplish tag-out of systems safe for work IAW work authorization form (WAF).
  • Have knowledge of pipe bending and be able to bend piping manually or by machine, utilizing templates/sketches and packing piping to avoid contortion.
  • Understand P-1 and Level 1 piping systems.
  • Be able to hydrostatic test piping systems.
  • Fit and install mechanically attached fittings.
  • Thread piping and tap holes to proper sizes.
  • Prep piping for welding using grinders or beveling machines and know/understand different types of bevels. Fit/install backing rings, E.B. rings.
  • Install pipe hangers/supports IAW applicable hanger drawings.
  • Have knowledge of various types of pipe and fitting materials and the proper material application in regards to piping system requirements. Understand MIL-STD-777 (the various types of pipe and fitting material and the proper material application in regards to piping system requirements.)
  • Have knowledge of valve types and properly pack valves.
  • Properly fit flanged joints, including proper gaskets and fasteners.
  • Have knowledge of hot work.
  • Set up and perform hot water flushing on sil-braze piping systems.
  • Understand bolting requirements, including various material types/requirements for flange bolting.


Qualifications & Experience

  • Be able to sil-braze (Grades 3, 4, and 5).
