Job Description

As a Welder-Fabricator with PeopleReady Skilled Trades, you’ll support a large network of construction contractors/ tradespeople throughout the Portland, Oregon area. In this role, you’ll earn $25-35 an hour, enjoy weekly pay, health insurance benefits and a flexible work schedule. This position consists of performing repairs and maintenance on a wide range of construction equipment in the shops and at times in the field. The Welder Fabricator primary objective is to minimize customer downtime on equipment through quick, accurate diagnoses and repairs. When not performing maintenance or fabrication repairs in the shop, regular maintenance and minor repairs on equipment and delivery vehicles are performed may be performed in the field. The position requires advanced welding skills with stick and wire feed welder machines, must be able to gas weld, braze using steel rod or brass rod and must have the skills to work with electrical, hydraulic, ignition, pneumatic systems, diesel and gas engines as well as drive trains.

Responsibilities

Perform routine service and repairs on equipment with limited resources

Ensure equipment operates properly before leaving the shop for ready line

Perform welding (electric arc ‘stick’, gas welding and brazing) in the shop and in the field

Inspect service and test equipment prior to tagging it “Ready to Rent”. Must maintain all decals, safety warnings and company ID stickers.

Prepare accurate records on the maintenance and repair of equipment including field service paperwork as needed.

Accurately order needed parts using part books and filling out requisitions

Notify Branch Manager of damaged equipment or warranty situations before repair is begun

May assist with the washing of equipment as needed.

May deliver or pick-up equipment to or from job sites as needed

Maintain a safe working environment

Assist in training new welders and or field service mechanic, as requested by supervisor

Attend technical classes as they come available

Report safety violations to supervisor

Adhere to all company policies, procedures, rules and regulations in written or verbal form. Regular attendance and active participation at Branch Safety meetings

Qualifications & Experience

  • Must have unexpired welding certifications for Arc, stick, gas welding and brazing.
  • Must own tools and rollaway toolbox and be will to add to your personal inventory
  • Mechanical knowledge of construction equipment is preferred
  • Must possess multi-tasking abilities
  • Must have the ability to work unsupervised and use time efficiently
  • Must be detail orientated
  • Must have legible handwriting
  • Must maintain a professional personal appearance
  • Ability to use mathematics to solve problems and measurements
  • Must be able to communicate in English. Ability to speak another language is a plus.
  • Keep regular, dependable and timely attendance
  • Maintain a cooperative working relationship with co-workers.
  • A high school diploma or equivalent GED is preferred but not required
  • Be able to frequently lift 25 lbs, occasionally lift 50 lbs, and seldom lift 90 lbs.
  • Must be able to grasp and apply new information quickly
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license
  • Must possess and maintain a good driving record
  • Must pass company drug screen
