Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Yacht Mechanic to join our team. The Yacht Mechanic will be responsible for maintaining, diagnosing, and repairing mechanical systems on a variety of luxury yachts and boats. The ideal candidate will have in-depth knowledge of marine engines, propulsion systems, electrical systems, and hydraulics, ensuring all systems run efficiently and safely for smooth operations on the water.

Responsibilities

Inspect, troubleshoot, and repair inboard and outboard engines, including diesel and gas engines, to ensure optimal performance.

Mechanical Systems: Maintain, repair, and install mechanical systems such as steering, propulsion, fuel, and exhaust systems, ensuring all components meet safety and performance standards.

Electrical Systems: Diagnose and repair yacht electrical systems, including batteries, alternators, starters, lighting, and navigation systems.

Hydraulic Systems: Maintain and repair hydraulic systems including trim tabs, cranes, winches, and steering systems.

Routine Servicing: Conduct routine maintenance services such as oil changes, fluid level checks, filter replacements, and cooling system flushes to ensure systems are properly maintained.

System Diagnostics: Use diagnostic tools and software to identify mechanical or electrical issues, and implement effective solutions.

Propulsion Systems: Inspect, repair, and replace propellers, shafts, and transmission systems to maintain smooth and efficient yacht operations.

Sea Trials: Perform sea trials to test repaired systems and ensure proper operation under real-world conditions.

Compliance: Ensure all repairs and maintenance tasks meet relevant marine regulations and safety standards.

Record Keeping: Maintain detailed logs of repairs, maintenance, and inspections for each vessel, ensuring accurate service histories.

Collaboration: Work closely with yacht owners, captains, and other crew members to understand mechanical needs and address issues promptly.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Experience: Minimum 3 years of experience in marine or yacht mechanics.
  • Technical Skills: Strong knowledge of inboard and outboard engines, diesel and gas engine systems, electrical systems, and hydraulic systems.
  • Certifications: Certification in marine mechanics or similar technical certifications preferred (e.g., ABYC, NMEA, or manufacturer-specific certifications).
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot complex mechanical and electrical issues effectively.
  • Tool Proficiency: Skilled in using diagnostic tools, hand tools, and power tools specific to marine mechanics.
  • Experience with various marine engine brands, including but not limited to Caterpillar, Volvo Penta, Yamaha, or Cummins.
  • Familiarity with marine electronics and navigation equipment.
  • Experience performing major overhauls on diesel engines or installing new mechanical systems.
  • Welding or fabrication experience is a plus.
