Stay sharp and safe: what every tradesperson should know about nail gun use
Nail guns, also known as nailers, are powerful tools designed to drive nails into wood and other materials much faster than a traditional hammer. While they can save time and reduce physical strain, they also come with serious safety risks if not used properly. Understanding how to operate nail guns with care is essential to preventing injuries on the job.
To help you stay safe while using nail guns, the PRST team is sharing four key tips to keep in mind during your day-to-day work—so you can stay protected and focused on the job.
Inspect the nail gun before use
Never use a nail gun with a missing nose guard safety spring. Trying to alter the rate of fire by removing the safety spring or keeping the trigger depressed will jam the gun.
Take caution when transporting
When transporting the nail gun, check that it is not connected to an electrical or air power source. Keep your finger off the trigger until you are ready to fire.
Check before firing
Make sure you have only placed the nose guard against the material you are going to nail together.
Keep it away from your body
Never rest the gun against any part of your body, or try to climb a ladder with the gun cradled against your body.
Nail guns are powerful tools that can make your work faster and more effective—but only when used safely and correctly. Following these essential dos and don’ts, you can help protect yourself and those around you while staying productive on the job. Keep these tips in mind, stay sharp, and make every move a safe one. .
