The importance of keeping the jobsite clean and organized
Good housekeeping is one of the simplest and most effective ways to prevent injuries in the construction industry.
Poor housekeeping creates unnecessary hazards that can lead to slips, trips, falls, cuts and struck-by incidents. This could include debris left on walkways, scattered tools, loose materials or spills on the job site.
Stay on top of it
Construction sites change constantly, which means housekeeping must be an ongoing effort, not something saved for the end of the day. Materials should be stored properly, walkways and access points kept clear, cords and hoses managed, and waste removed as work progresses. Even small items like scrap lumber, tie wire or packaging can cause serious injuries if left in travel paths.
Safety first
Good housekeeping also improves efficiency and morale. A clean, organized work area makes it easier to move safely, locate tools and materials, and respond quickly in an emergency. It also helps prevent damage to equipment and reduces fire hazards caused by accumulated debris.
Take a few minutes throughout the day to clean as you go. If you see a housekeeping issue, fix it or report it.
Keeping the jobsite clean and organized helps everyone work more safely and go home injury-free.
