Job Description
PeopleReady Skilled Trades is now hiring maintenance mechanic for Nassco’s Norfolk yard in Norfolk, VA. We are looking for maintenance mechanics that have commercial and industrial experience. Shift is 6:00 AM to 2:45 PM Must be able to work night shift (as needed) The ideal candidate must have a minimum of 3 years of experience as an maintenance mechanic in the marine shipyard industry. This position is temp to perm. Competitive pay from $27-$30 an hour DOE.

Responsibilities
Repairs and maintains in accordance with diagrams, sketches, operations manuals and manufactures specifications machinery and mechanical equipment such as air compressors, fire pumps, metal shears, band saws, drill presses and other production equipment.
Should be able to make a diagnosis of machinery and equipment to determine problems and make proper repairs, whether the equipment is manually, air hydraulically or electrically operated. Be capable of using measuring instruments such as rules calipers and micrometers. Have some experience in operation of power tools, lathes, drill presses, band saws, grinders and other equipment to be effective and efficient in repairing equipment.
Possesses some skill and experience in building maintenance and repairs including boilers. Experience in burning and welding would be helpful. In addition, knowledge and experience in temporary service going aboard navy vessels would be a plus.
Qualifications & Experience
- Must have a minimum of 3 years of experience as an maintenance mechanic.
- Must have commercial and industrial experience.
- Journeyman card a plus but not required.
- Must have tools of the trade.
- Must be able to access all Navy installations and other shipyards. Must be able to enter confined spaces, work at heights and in confining or restricted spaces aboard vessels under construction/repair. Physical dexterity must allow for bending, reaching, climbing, crawling, and working on ladders and scaffolding. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds of weight. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to vapors, gases, dust, welding/burning fumes, and smoke. Must be able to spend up to 90% of time in an outdoor shipyard environment in all climates. The noise level is usually moderate to extremely noisy 90% of the time, which may include sirens, horns, chipping, and hammering.
