Job Description

PRST is seeking an experienced Mechanical Commissioning Technician (HVAC) to perform advanced mechanical commissioning, startup, testing, troubleshooting, and verification of complex mechanical systems and equipment. This senior-level role is responsible for ensuring all installed systems meet engineering specifications, safety requirements, operational standards, and performance expectations. The ideal candidate will have strong mechanical troubleshooting skills and experience working on industrial or large-scale commercial projects. 

Pay: $40-$55 DOE

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead commissioning activities for mechanical systems and equipment.
  • Perform system startup, functional testing, performance verification, and reliability testing.
  • Commission and troubleshoot:
    • Pumps
    • Compressors
    • HVAC systems
    • Piping systems
    • Heat exchangers
    • Boilers
    • Mechanical auxiliary equipment
  • Verify installations comply with engineering drawings, specifications, codes, and industry standards.
  • Read and interpret:
    • P&IDs
    • Mechanical drawings
    • Isometric drawings
    • O&M manuals
    • Commissioning procedures
  • Conduct root cause analysis and resolve mechanical system issues.
  • Complete commissioning documentation, punch lists, test reports, redlines, and turnover packages.
  • Review commissioning plans, safety procedures, and work methods.
  • Assist in mentoring junior technicians and supporting commissioning teams.

Qualifications:

  • Associate Degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Industrial Technology, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum 8 years of mechanical maintenance, installation, or commissioning experience.
  • Minimum 3 years of advanced commissioning experience on complex mechanical systems.
  • Experience working on trains, rail equipment, or similar transportation systems is highly preferred, along with experience performing field commissioning, start-up, and mechanical system validation in industrial environments.
  • Experience in industrial environments such as:
  • Manufacturing
  • Power Generation
  • Data Centers
  • Oil & Gas
  • Pharmaceutical Facilities
  • Industrial Plants
  • Strong knowledge of:
    • Rotating equipment
    • Industrial HVAC systems
    • Piping and pressure systems
    • Hydraulics
    • Mechanical instrumentation
  • Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, process flow diagrams, mechanical drawings, and 3D models.
  • Skilled in mechanical troubleshooting, equipment alignment, vibration analysis, and system diagnostics.

Responsibilities

Requirements:

  • Ability to work in industrial and construction environments
  • Strong commitment to safety and quality standards
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a commissioning team
  • Must have reliable transportation and ability to pass any required site screenings
  • 8+ years of mechanical maintenance, installation, or commissioning experience
  • Minimum of 3+ years of advanced commissioning experience on complex mechanical systems
  • Strong mechanical troubleshooting and diagnostic skills
  • Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, mechanical drawings, and technical documentation
  • Experience with system start-up, testing, and commissioning activities
  • Knowledge of industry codes and standards (ASME, API, OSHA, ISO)
  • Ability to complete and maintain detailed commissioning documentation
  • Strong communication skills and ability to support team coordination and handover activities
  • Experience working on trains, rail equipment, or similar transportation systems is highly preferred, along with experience performing field commissioning, start-up, and mechanical system validation in industrial environments.

The hourly rate for this position is $40 - $55/hour. This range is a good-faith estimate based on factors such as relevant skills, experience, education, training, geographic location and other considerations permitted by law.
