Job Description
PeopleReady Skilled Trades – Marine Division is hiring experienced First Class Shipfitters to work at NASSCO in the Bremerton yard.
Interested candidates must have a minimum of 5 years' experience working in a shipyard environment and meet the requirements below. All candidates will be administered for a skills test, drug screening and must pass a background check in order to obtain DBIDs.
Pay & Per Diem
- Up to $32.35/hour
- $178/day per diem – 7 days (Candidates must reside at least 65 miles away from jobsite location)
- Must know all of the 1st and 2nd class Shipfitter requirements.
- Must be able to safely operate a torch and plasma in all positions.
- Must be able to bevel plate edges and TAOs using the correct joint design.
- Must have knowledge of WAFs.
- Must be able to read and interpret NAVSEA drawing and blueprints.

Responsibilities
- High School diploma or equivalent education.
- Minimum 5 years of experience working on ships.
- Must have dependable transportation.
- Access to local bases.
- Must know all of the 1st and 2nd class Shipfitter requirements.
- Must be able to safely operate a torch and plasma in all positions.
- Must be able to bevel plate edges and TAOs using the correct joint design.
- Must be able to complete work with little to no guidance from a supervisor.
- Basic knowledge of standard items is required.
- Basic knowledge of shop equipment is required.
- Must have knowledge of WAFs.
- Must be able to read and interpret NAVSEA drawing and blueprints.
- Assures that tank/compartment has an updated safe for hot work ticket and the requirements of the ticket have been met. (Example: ventilation, lighting, safety equipment etc.).
- Assures that conditions of the tank/compartment have not changed since the ticket was written. (Example: fuel run back, unsafe working conditions, etc.).
- Assures that a Work Authorization Form (WAF) ticket is on the job site and that it is for the specific job being accomplished, no work will be accomplished without a WAF posted at location of repairs.
- Assures that any other safety issues are complied with that relate to the specific job being accomplished (Example: special staging, face shields for grinding, protective clothing for hot work related jobs, breathing apparatus with correct cartridges, etc).
- Assures that you are trained or qualified for the work you are assigned to do (Example: JLG, forklift, welding, brazing, special electrical/mechanical repairs and etc.).
- Assures that you and personnel working under your direction are working as safely and as productively as possible maintaining quality control at all times.
- Assures that the job site is left in a safe and clean condition prior to departure.
- Assures that personnel have work package and the necessary drawings, technical manuals, or specifications required for them to adequately accomplish their work assignments.
The hourly rate for this position is $32.35/hour. This range is a good-faith estimate based on factors such as relevant skills, experience, education, training, geographic location and other considerations permitted by law. An employee's pay history will not be a contributing factor where prohibited by local law. Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis unless a deadline is otherwise stated.
