Required Qualifications

4+ years of related experience OR 8+ years of shipbuilding/ship repair experience.

Highly qualified Journeyman in a relevant metal trade.

Strong knowledge of ship construction and ability to troubleshoot issues in real time.

Ability to read, understand, and work from technical drawings and specifications.

Strong leadership, communication, teamwork, coaching, and conflict-resolution skills.

Proven ability to direct and coordinate the work of others.

Strong computer skills, including word processing and spreadsheets.

Responsibilities
Lead and supervise Journeymen and Apprentice Fitters and Welders.
Oversee metal trades, including welding and machinery assembly.
Ensure work is completed safely, correctly, efficiently, and on schedule.
Coordinate labor, materials, tools, equipment, change orders, and safety documentation.
Partner with HR on hiring, termination, performance, and disciplinary matters.
Preferred / Differentiating Experience
Previous Supervisor or Lead experience in a metal trade.
Lead experience as a Machinist, Fitter, or Welder.
Broad knowledge of ship construction and shipboard systems, equipment, and operations.
Experience supervising multiple metal trades or diverse skilled crews
Lead and supervise Journeymen and Apprentice Fitters and Welders.
Oversee metal trades, including welding and machinery assembly.
Ensure work is completed safely, correctly, efficiently, and on schedule.
Coordinate labor, materials, tools, equipment, change orders, and safety documentation.
Partner with HR on hiring, termination, performance, and disciplinary matters.
Key Responsibilities
Assign daily/weekly work, set goals, and monitor project progress.
Coordinate staffing, scheduling, tools, materials, equipment, and subcontractors.
Supervise employee time reporting, performance, quality, and productivity.
Inspect work to ensure compliance with drawings, specifications, and construction procedures.
Identify deficiencies and coordinate corrective action, repairs, and rework with QC.
Provide on-the-job training, coaching, and technical guidance.
Ensure crew members are properly qualified and equipped to perform assigned work.
Lead toolbox meetings and communicate safety concerns, work scope, schedules, and priorities.
Facilitate effective shift changes and communicate project status between crews.
Participate in performance reviews and identify potential training or disciplinary needs.
Assist with Fitters, Welders, and Machinists apprenticeship programs.
Attend production meetings and coordinate work with other departments/shops.
Serve as a positive example of leadership, safety, quality, teamwork, and productivity.
Identify opportunities to improve processes and support company goals.
The hourly rate for this position is $42-$48/hour. This range is a good-faith estimate based on factors such as relevant skills, experience, education, training, geographic location and other considerations permitted by law. An employee's pay history will not be a contributing factor where prohibited by local law. Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis unless a deadline is otherwise stated.
