Job Description
PeopleReady Skilled Trades is now hiring for experienced Marine Painters for Nassco’s Norfolk yard in Norfolk, VA. Must have shipyard experience. Must be able to pass a background check and drug screen in order to obtain a DBIDs. Competitive pay from $20-$25 an hour DOE. Available Shifts : 6:00 AM to 2:45 PM & 3:00 PM to 11:00 PM. Must be SSPC certified in preservation in one of the following: (C7, C12, C13, or C14) or Coast Guard certified in pumping.

Responsibilities
- Surface Preparation: Preparing surfaces (metal, wood, fiberglass) by sanding, cleaning, and applying primers.
- Coating Application: Applying various paints, stains, varnishes, and other marine coatings using brushes, spray guns, or rollers.
- Small Repairs: Making small fiberglass repairs, filling cracks and holes.
- Safety Compliance: Following safety procedures and regulations, using appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Tool Maintenance: Maintaining and cleaning painting tools and equipment.
- Troubleshooting: Identifying and resolving issues related to paint application and equipment.
- Worksite Clean-up: Maintaining a clean and organized work environment.
- Following Instructions: Adhering to job specifications and instructions from supervisors.
- Technical Skills: Possessing knowledge of various painting techniques, coatings, and their applications in marine environments.
Qualifications & Experience
- Must meet all Journeyperson Marine Painter 1 requirements
- Must know how to use power tools associated with surface preparation and paint removal
- Must have knowledge of brushing and rolling painting
- Must have knowledge of surface preparation SSPC-SP-1, SP-2, SP-3, SP-5, SP-6, SP-10, SP-11 AND SP-12
- Must have knowledge of the paints used in marine painting, including safety data sheets and NAVSEA 718 product data sheets
- Must possess knowledge of the differences between critical coated systems and non-critical coated systems
- Must have knowledge concerning paint induction times and also have some knowledge of spray painting, or pumping (gas free) procedures
- May have two or more of the following SSPC certifications: C7, C12, C13, or C14
- Ability to perform work in confined spaces
- Knowledge of NAVSEA Standard Item 009-32 and the requirements
The hourly rate for this position is $20.00-$25.00/hour. This range is a good-faith estimate based on factors such as relevant skills, experience, education, training, geographic location and other considerations permitted by law.
