Job Description
- $29.50/hour
- $115 for Days Worked- Per diem can be offered to a traveler that resides at least 65 miles away from jobsite (Hourly Rate will differ for a traveler)
- Must have at least 5 years’ experience working on Navy ships and have the ability to navigate a ship and understand compartment designation
- Must meet all Journeyman 3 Sheet Metal Mechanic requirements.
- Must be able to read and interpret mechanical drawings, layout, fabricate, install, and repair sheet metal products related to shipboard construction HVAC and habitability and have an excellent knowledge of the various types of metals and sizes.
- Excellent knowledge of Habitability layout and installation of metal joiner (MJ) bulkheads, MJ doors, berths, galleys and office outfitting.
- Operate press brake, hand brake, power rollers, hand rollers, general sheet metal fabrication equipment.
- Write WAFs and hot work tickets and perform trade quality assurance work, with little to no supervision.

Responsibilities
- Assembles ventilation runs in accordance with drawings, specifications and meet Navy shipboard standard detail requirements, with little to no supervision.
- Ensure tank/compartment has an updated safe for hot work ticket and that requirements of the ticket have been met (ex., ventilation, lighting, safety equipment, etc.)
- Ensure conditions of the tank/compartment have not changed since the ticket was written (ex., fuel run back, unsafe working conditions, etc.)
- Write WAFs and hot work tickets and perform trade quality assurance work, with little to no supervision.
- Ensure that any other safety issues are complied with that relate to the specific job being accomplished (ex., special staging, face shields for grinding, protective clothing for hot work related jobs, breathing apparatus with correct cartridges, etc.)
- Ensure that you are trained for qualified for the work you are assigned to do (ex., JLG, forklift, welding, brazing, special electrical/mechanical repairs, etc.)
- Operate required equipment for the job.
- Ensure that you and personnel working under your direction are working safely and as productively as possible, maintaining quality control at all times
- Ensure that job site is left in a safe and clean condition prior to departure
- Ability to complete assignment with little to no supervision
- Visual Requirements: Must be able to pass a Standard Jaeger’s Test chart for near vision acuity reading J1 letters or equivalent with or without corrective aids and pass a color vision test using Ishihara’s Tests for Color Deficiency.
- Must be able to climb on and around ships and walk to other yard areas and requires extended periods of standing and walking (75%). Inspections and work may require climbing ladders, working at heights, walking on scaffolding and observing co-workers using tools and equipment. Lifting/carrying tools and parts weighing up to 50 lbs. on frequent basis. Standing, bending, sitting, reaching, pushing, pulling, crouching, kneeling, handling, finger dexterity, feeling, eye/hand/foot coordination, seeing, hearing required. Selecting appropriate tools for jobs, as per trade classification. Works in tight, confined work spaces on board ship and is exposed to varied temperatures, wind, wet and humid conditions, fumes, odors and dust, vibrations from ship and hand tools.
- Ability to work evenings, weekends, and overtime as needed
- Travel up to 30% may be required based on operational needs
- Must comply with all shipyard safety and training requirements
The hourly rate for this position is $25.25-$29.50/hour. This range is a good-faith estimate based on factors such as relevant skills, experience, education, training, geographic location and other considerations permitted by law.
