Job Description

PeopleReady Skilled Trades is now hiring Inside Machinists for PSNS in Bremerton, WA. The Inside Machinist is responsible for operating machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, shapers, or grinders to produce precision metal parts, both in small and large quantities. Ensures products meet precise specifications. Occasionally assembles mechanical components. The ideal candidate must have a minimum of 3 years of experience as an inside machinist in the marine shipyard industry. This position is temp to perm. Competitive pay from $25-$30 DOE.

Responsibilities

•   Sets up and operates conventional and special-purpose machines to fabricate metallic and nonmetallic parts

•   Fits and assembles machined parts into complete units

•   Measures, marks, scribe’s dimensions and reference points 

•   Monitor and control feed rate and speed of parts being machined, to ensure optimum production rates and quality 

•   Selects, aligns and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories and material machines, such as mils, lathes, job borders, grinders and shapers

•   Calculates and sets controls to regulate machining factors, such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth of angle cut

•   Starts and observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining and adjusts machining machine controls

•   Plan the sequence of cutting and finishing operations

•   Shape steel, aluminum, plastic and other materials

•   Fit and assemble parts using jigs, fixtures, surface plate, surface table, hand tools and power tools

•   Verifies dimensions and alignment of assemble using measuring instruments, such as micrometers, height gauges and gauge blocks

•   May install machined replacement parts in mechanisms, machines and equipment and test operation of unit to ensure functionality and performance

•   Other relevant tasks may be assigned 

Qualifications & Experience

  • • Must have knowledge and ability to utilize and position machining equipment such as drills, lathe and milling machines
  • • Proficient in using precision measurement tools
  • • Understanding of both Imperial and Metric measuring systems as well as shop mathematics including trigonometry, decimal and fractions
  • • Must have ability to work at heights and in confined spaces
  • • Measuring equipment, such as micrometers and venire calipers, various hand tools, such as hammers, drills, grinders, welding equipment, cable cutters, electrical tape, electrical equipment and blueprint specification accuracy’s
  • • Navy standards manual and cleaning equipment knowledge, preferred
  • • Personal protective equipment required
  • • Knowledge of machine shop theory and procedures, shop mathematics, machinability of materials and layout techniques
  • • Ability to hear warning signs, read and comprehend safety instructions, regulations and warnings
  • • Must comprehend written and verbal instruction
  • Additional requirements:
  • Must be a U.S. citizen and qualify for a Common Access Card (CAC) and/or DBIDS badge. Must have reliable attendance and punctuality. Frequent lifting up to 50 lbs., climbing ladders or equipment, balancing, reaching above shoulder or out in front, manual dexterity, pushing, bending, occasionally lowering self into confined spaces, working in reclined positions, as needed. Must have good eye and foot coordination. Works in all areas of the shipyard and onboard ships. Must be able to maintain general safety awareness and avoid hazards in the work area. Exposure to fumes, odors, dust, gases, various climates and temperatures and low ventilation conditions. Exposure to constantly moving machines and mechanical parts and high levels of constant noise.
