Job Description

PeopleReady Skilled Trades is currently hiring an experienced Heavy Equipment Operator –  Mid- Level Roller Operator to support a large contractor in the greater Charleston, SC area. This role offers the opportunity to work on diverse and impactful construction projects across multiple sectors, including commercial, healthcare, industrial and energy, infrastructure, institutional, and residential.
As a Mid- Level Roller Operator, you will play an integral role in site preparation and compaction, ensuring that surfaces meet required specifications for quality and safety. You will work closely with a skilled team of professionals on all facets of site construction, including earthwork, grading, and utility installation.. You will also play a critical role in stormwater management, pipe installation, and other essential site construction tasks.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate roller equipment to compact soil, asphalt, and other materials to meet project specifications.
  • Assist in grading and leveling operations to prepare the site for construction.
  • Collaborate with site crew members and supervisors to ensure smooth project execution.
  • Perform routine maintenance and safety checks on the roller and other equipment.
  • Support site construction tasks, such as box building, ditch grading, and laser setups, as needed.
  • Follow safety protocols and maintain a clean, organized worksite.
  • Collaborate with team members and contractors to meet project goals.
  • Ability to operate various equipment well is a plus

Responsibilities

Qualifications:

  • Experience: Proven experience operating rollers and other heavy equipment in construction settings.
  • Skills:
    • Strong understanding of soil compaction techniques and surface preparation.
    • Familiarity with site grading, laser setups, and related construction tools is a plus.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and environments.
  • Safety: Commitment to following OSHA standards and workplace safety protocols.

  • Possess a valid certification and minimum 2 years' experience with heavy construction equipment including Rollers
  • Working knowledge of hydraulics, diesel engines, electronics, electronics, and Department of Transportation regulations
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Ability to pass background, drug test, and entry courses as needed for each site worked
  • Ability to work in variable weather (cold, heat, windy, etc.)
  • Ability to stand, bend, kneel and walk for extended periods throughout the day with or without reasonable accommodation
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation


The hourly rate for this position is $16.41 - $24.61/hour. This range is a good-faith estimate based on factors such as relevant skills, experience, education, training, geographic location and other considerations permitted by law.
