Job Description

• This position reports to an onsite foreman.
• This position requires the employee to follow all Company policies as per GarVin Construction Inc. Employee Handbook / Policy manual.
• This position requires the employee to follow all Company Safety rules as per GarVin Construction Inc. Health & Safety Accident Prevention Plan.
• Many of the below tasks require specialized training and or certification. Including but not limited to OSHA 10, fall protection, elevated work platform, and various additional safety classes.

TASKS:
Supervisory

On jobsite training and development of apprentices and laborers.

Metal Building Assembler / Iron Worker Tasks

To be qualified and trained:
• Set-up hoisting equipment for hoisting and placing structural steel members.
• Places rigging on structural steel member to ready for hoisting into position.
• Guides structural steel member into position, using tag line (rope).
• Signals worker operating hoisting equipment to lift and place structural steel member.

Pulls, pushes, or pries structural steel member into approximate position while member is supported by hoisting device.

Forces structural steel members into final position, using hand tools such as sleever bar or spud wrench.

Placement of alignment tools through holes to align bolt holes in structural steel member with corresponding holes in previously placed member.

Install bolts into aligned structural steel members when in position until they can be permanently torqued, or welded in place.

Verifies vertical and horizontal alignment of structural steel members, using various types of leveling and measuring tools.
Cuts and welds steel members to make alterations, using saws, oxyacetylene or welding equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Unloading and bringing materials to the jobsite
  • Setting up welding leads and grounds
  • Using one or more specific welding methods
  • Studying blueprints or project specifications in addition to calculating the dimensions of the parts being welded
  • Measuring and cutting weld material to desired lengths with a torch or electric saw
  • Inspecting grooves, angles, or gap allowances, using micrometer, caliper, and precision measuring instruments
  • Resolving required equipment and welding method, applying knowledge of metallurgy, geometry, and welding techniques
  • Laying out, positioning, and securing parts and assemblies according to specifications, using straightedge, combination square, calipers, and ruler


Qualifications & Experience

  • Two years of experience in welding and certification in one or more welding processes – submerge arc/diametric certification preferred
  • Knowledge with measurements and takeoffs for pipe/structure components
  • Verifiable references to confirm your professional skills and experience
  • Strong work ethic
  • Able to focus on details at all times
  • Able to lift 50 pounds in order to load and unload materials as well as carry needed tools to and from the jobsite
  • Able to work in varying inside and/or outside temperatures, which may include heat (temperatures above 100 degrees) or cold (temperatures below 32 degrees), in addition to fumes, odors, dusts, gases, poor ventilation, etc.
