Job Description

PeopleReady Skilled Trades is now hiring Quality Assurance Inspector for Nassco’s Norfolk yard in Norfolk, VA. A quality assurance inspector performs predetermined methods, operations, setups and prescribed specifications for QA inspections and tests required to substantiate conformance to drawings, specifications, and contract requirements. Conducts surveillance audits in all phases and stages during ship repair. The ideal candidate must have a minimum of 4 years of experience as an Quality Assurance Inspector in the marine shipyard industry. This position is temp to perm. Competitive pay from $21-$24 an hour DOE.

Responsibilities

  • Must be able to perform the essentials of the position including the ability to work at heights, enter tanks, voids and cofferdams to perform competent person duties.
  • Must be able to climb vertical ladders, work around moving machinery and perform tasks while using a sky climber, scissor lift and/or condor.
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints, military standard/specifications, Regulatory Body Requirements, and Shipbuilding Specifications.
  • Possess a good general knowledge of ship repair procedures and test requirements
  • Skilled in blueprint reading, precision instrument utilization, and technical manual interpretation.
  • Able to set, self-calibrate and use assigned testing, inspection and QA instruments.
  • Fundamental problem-solving skills. Able to use basic Lean and Six Sigma principles to provide recommended solutions to identified or perceived problems.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
  • Computer literate with knowledge of NASSCO and mainframe computer. 
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.  
  • Ability to exercise tact, diplomacy, decisiveness, resourcefulness, and good judgment in dealing with others.


Qualifications & Experience

  • Technical/Associate Degree, preferably Q.A./Marine-related or equivalent, or 4 to 6 years of Quality Assurance inspection experience or equivalent trade related. Certified as a Non-Destructive Test Inspector Level II (includes VT, PT, MT, and UT) to NAVSEA TECHPUB requirements. If not certified, must be able to be certified if assigned these duties. Certified in accordance with the NAVSEA Basic Paint Inspector (NBPI) course, NACE International Coating Inspector Program (CIP) Level 1 or higher, or SSPC Protective Coating Inspector Program (PCI) Level 2. Knowledge of ship construction and repair procedures including welding, structural, machinery, electrical piping, ventilation and familiarity with various measuring instruments related to inspections.

The hourly rate for this position is $21.00-$24.00/hour. This range is a good-faith estimate based on factors such as relevant skills, experience, education, training, geographic location and other considerations permitted by law.
